The GKS Scholarship provides hundreds of students worldwide with the chance to pursue advanced studies in undergraduate and graduate programs in South Korean higher education institutions.

The initiative seeks to develop friendly relations and worldwide educational exchanges between nations. There are 220 undergraduate and 1,080 graduate award recipients in total (numbers may vary according to budgetary constraints).

The Global Korea Scholarship’s main goals are to increase international educational exchange and strengthen ties between Korea and the participating nations by giving international students the chance to pursue degrees at Korean higher education institutions.

Eligibility

Below are some important eligibility criteria for applications.

1. Nationality

All candidates must hold citizenship of NIIED-designated countries that are invited to take part in the GKS program

2. Education

Applicants who have graduated from an associate degree program or from high school, or who are anticipated to graduate, are eligible for the bachelor’s degree program.

Candidates who have graduated from high school or are anticipated to do so are eligible to apply for the associate degree program.

A certificate of intended graduation must be included with the application by applicants who plan to graduate.

These candidates must submit a graduation certificate (or degree certificate) by December 31, 2024, if they make it past the first round of selection.

3. Score (GPA)

One of the two requirements listed below must be satisfied by the Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of the full curriculum from the prior (degree) program;
– On a 100-point system, the score percentile should be 80% or higher, or in the top 20% of the class.
– The CGPA needs to be 2.64/4.0, 2.80/4.3, 2.91/4.5, or 3.23/5.0, or above.

4- Age

Must be below 25 years of age (born after March 1, 1999)

5- Health

All candidates must be in good health, both mentally and physically, to study in Korea for the full duration of the scholarship program

Candidates who have a bachelor’s degree cannot apply. Applicants who have an associate degree can only apply to a bachelor’s program

Application and Selection

The selection process for applications to the University Track and the Embassy is as follows.

Period of Scholarship

  • Bachelor’s Degree Program: 5-7 years
  • 1 year of Korean language training + 4~6 years of degree program
  • Associate Degree Program: 3-4 years
  • 1 year of Korean language training + 2~3 years of degree program
