Gates Millennium grant is a highly competitive, last-dollar grant for outstanding, minority high school seniors from low-income families. The scholarship is awarded to great student leaders each year in order to help them reach their full potential.
Overview of Gates Millennium Scholarship
Gates Millennium Scholarship was made to provide outstanding low-income African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American, and Hispanic American students who could serve an opportunity to complete an undergraduate college education in any discipline of any kind.
Eligibility Criteria
To apply, students must be:
- A high school senior.
- Ethnicities represented include African-American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian/Pacific Islander
- American, and Hispanic American.
- Pell-eligible.
- An American citizen, national, or permanent resident.
In good academic standing, with a cumulative weighted GPA of at least 3.3 on a 4.0 scale.
Students must enroll full-time in a four-year degree program at a US-accredited, not-for-profit institution or university, whether private or public.
For American Indian/Alaska Natives, evidence of tribe enrollment is necessary.
Ideal Candidate
An ideal applicant would have:
- A proper academic record in high school likely in the top 10% of his or her graduating class.
- Demonstrate your leadership skills like engagement in community service, extracurricular, or other activities.
- Superior personal success skills, such as emotional maturity, motivation, perseverance, etc.
