Overview of LULAC Scholarship
Through the LULAC National Educational Service Centers, Inc. (LNESC), LULAC provides a range of scholarships for seniors in high school as well as undergraduate and graduate college students.
About 70 LULAC Councils collaborate to co-sponsor the LULAC scholarship program. These councils raise scholarship funds at the local level, and sponsoring firms match those amounts nationwide.
Since its founding in 1929, the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) has ranked education as its top goal.
The LULAC National Scholarship Fund (LNSF) was founded in 1975 as a component of LULAC’s educational initiatives to offer scholarships to Hispanic students enrolled in colleges and universities.
Local LULAC Councils offer scholarships to local students via the LNSF program in collaboration with regional and national corporations.
LNSF is administered by the LULAC National Educational Service Centers, Inc., a non-profit educational organization established by LULAC to provide educational programs for Hispanics and other youth.
Eligibility Requirements
Candidates who fulfill these requirements will be given consideration for the program:
- Candidates must have submitted an application to or be enrolled full-time in a college, university, 2-year college, or associate’s degree-granting vocational school. Graduate students are required to be enrolled part-time in a college or university or have applied.
- Candidates must be awarded Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), be a citizen of the United States, or be a lawful permanent resident.
- If a student is connected to a member of the scholarship committee, the council president, or a specific donor to the council’s local funds, they will not be eligible for a scholarship.
Award Criteria
Applicants may be qualified for the following three types of scholarship awards based on the criteria below and contingent on funds available by each council:
National Scholastic Achievement Awards ($2,000)
- The student holds a GPA of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale or equivalent
Honors Awards ($500 to $2,000)
- The student holds a GPA of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale or equivalent
General Awards ($250 to $1,000)
- The individual’s drive, honesty, and integrity—qualities that are best demonstrated through a personal interview and in the personal essay—may be given more weight than their grades and academic achievement. We’ll also take into account needs, involvement in the community, and leadership initiatives.
