NOS scholarship: Full Application Guide

NOS scholarship – The National Overseas Scholarship Program seeks to support financially disadvantaged students pursuing advanced degrees, such as master’s or doctoral studies abroad, from specific social groups, such as Scheduled Castes, Denotified Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Tribes, Landless Agricultural Laborers, and Traditional Artisans.

The program provides financial assistance to selected individuals to pursue Master’s and Ph.D. programs at foreign universities accredited by the government or authorized body of their home country. Approximately 125 new scholarships are given out annually, depending on funding availability.

Eligibility

  • Scholarships will be awarded in the first round of selection to candidates who have been accepted into one of the top 500 international schools or universities as per the most recent QS rankings for 2023.
  • To be eligible for the scholarship, candidates must have passed their prior qualifying exam with at least 60% of the possible points or an equal grade. The Master’s degree is the qualifying examination for Ph.D. programs, whereas the Bachelor’s degree is the qualifying test for Master’s degree programs.
  • The family’s total annual income should have been at most Rs. 8.00 lakh during the preceding fiscal year.

Application Process

The application form can be found on the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment’s official website, starting in the second week of February. Students must submit a completed form and self-attested documentation to the ministry. 

NOS scholarship Selection Process

  • Applications will be evaluated if they send in their completed form and any required supporting documentation.
  • Those previously accepted to a university in the UK, Germany, or Canada will be given preference.
  • Students who have not yet received admission will be given conditional consideration.
  • If there is a tie between two or more applicants, the following process will be used: the oldest applicant will be given the first available slot, and so on in descending order; available unfilled slots designated for female applicants will be given to the most eligible candidates, and the remaining slots will be filled by the eligible applicants exceeding the age limit.

  • Caste Certificate
  • Photo
  • Scanned Signature
  • Current Address proof/Permanent Address Proof, in case different from current address
  • Qualifying Degree/Provisional Certificate
  • Mark sheet of qualifying examination
  • Valid Document regarding admission to a Foreign University (Application, Registration, or Admission-Related document)
  • Income documents of all family members
  • ITR acceptance document.
  • Aadhar Card
