The Union Plus Education Foundation administers the Union Plus Scholarship Program and receives funding from the Union Plus Credit Card issuer. Having a Union Plus Credit Card is not a requirement for applying for this scholarship.
Overview of Union Plus Scholarship
The Union Plus Scholarship Program has given working-class students who wish to start or continue their post-secondary education more than $5.6 million since it was established in 1991. Their dedication to higher education has helped over 4,000 families.
Eligibility Criteria
Members of participating unions who are active or retired, as well as their spouses and dependent children (as specified by IRS regulations).
A minimum of one year of continuous union membership on the part of the applicant, their spouse, or, in the case of a dependent, their parent. May 31 of the scholarship year is the deadline for fulfilling the one-year membership requirement.
Evaluation Criteria
This scholarship is highly competitive. Candidates are judged on their academic prowess, social consciousness, need for financial support, and labor appreciation.
A minimum GPA of 3.0 is advised. You may receive as much as half of your final score from the compulsory essays. Scholarship candidates are evaluated by an unbiased panel of postsecondary educators.
Application Timeline
Applications will be accepted beginning in mid-June, and they must be submitted completely by 12:00 p.m. on the latest.
The scholarship year ends on January 31st at noon Eastern Standard Time. After this date, applications won’t be taken into consideration.
Scholarship Award Amounts
The range of amounts is $500 to $4,000. A study using these one-time monetary awards will start in the fall of 2025. Each year, students may reapply.
