About Ishan Uday Scholarship

Ishan Uday is a special scholarship program that the University Grants Commission (UGC) has launched for students from the North Eastern Region (NER).

The goal of this program is to assist NER students who are enrolled in a range of courses, including general degrees, professional and technical programs, and even courses related to medicine and paramedicine.

Through the Ishan Uday scholarship program, 10,000 new scholarships are given out annually. Up to INR 7,800 is given to the scholarship recipients each month until their degree program is finished.

The goal of the Ishan Uday scholarship program, which will launch in the academic year 2014–15, is to increase enrollment rates in the North East Region and encourage students from financially disadvantaged backgrounds to pursue higher education.

By introducing this scholarship program, the UGC also hopes to support the growth of professional education in the NE Region.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. The Northeastern states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Tripura are the states in which candidates must be residents.
  2. The candidates’ combined annual family income should not be more than INR 4.5 lakh.
  3. Before applying for the scholarship, candidates must have passed their class 12 test or its equivalent during the previous academic year.
  4. In addition, applicants must have been accepted into any degree program, including integrated ones, in the first year at universities, colleges, or institutes covered by Sections 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act. This includes institutions qualified to receive grants-in-aid from the UGC, state- or centrally-funded educational institutions, reputable national institutes, and those with an AISHE code for admissions. It also includes Deemed-to-be Universities covered under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956.
  1. Students who identify as transgender may also apply for the Ishan Uday scholarship.
  2. The Ishan Uday scholarship is not available to students attending open universities.
  3. This scholarship is not available to applicants who were accepted under the management quota, who are receiving any other scholarships, or who are enrolled in courses that do not result in a degree.
