Did you know that students who will have a college transcript by the conclusion of the fall term, or who currently have one from a U.S. college or university with regional accreditation, are eligible for the SMART Scholarship? It is also available to people who are or will be enrolled in graduate programs at nationally recognized universities.
Overview of Smart Scholarship
Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) students can take advantage of a combined educational and career development opportunity through the Department of Defense (DoD)-funded Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship-for-Service Program.
Scholarships in undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate studies in any of the 24 STEM fields are available from SMART. SMART scholars are awarded full scholarships, yearly stipends, and a job guarantee with the Department of Defense (DoD) upon graduation.
Every year, from August to December, SMART applications are accepted. Awards are given out in the spring of the following year.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for the Dellums SMART and SMART Scholarships, candidates must:
- be a citizen of the united states, the united kingdom, australia, canada, or new zealand.
- be at least eighteen years old on January 1, 2026.
- possess and uphold a 3.0 cumulative GPA out of 4.0.
- presently pursuing a degree in a smart stem field, or plan to do so in the fall of 2025.
- be requesting money for a degree for one to five years. funding for degrees will begin in august 2025.
- finish your summer internships.
- upon graduation, agree to serve the department of defense as a civilian employee on a one-for-one basis.
Students studying fields essential to the Department of Defense’s (DoD) national security missions are the program’s main focus.
