NMMS Scholarship: Award, Eligibility, Application Process

NMMS Scholarship – The Indian Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) is offering the NMMS Scholarship 2024. The National Means Cum Merit Scholarship (NMMS) is another name for it.

NMMS Scholarship

The Ministry of Education grants 1,00,000 NMMS scholarships to meritorious eighth-grade students each year. At the state level, SCERTs or education departments administer the NMMS exams in an offline mode. The window for students who make the merit list has begun to apply for scholarships through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).

The application form will open on June 30, 2024, and students may submit new or renewed applications for NMMSS through NSP by August 31, 2024, for the 2024–2025 academic year.

Students who applied through the NSP for the 2023–24 school year have been contacted via SMS and have obtained their OTR/Reference number through the portal.

About The NMMS Scholarship

The National Means-Cum-Merit Scholarship is a scholarship program that is supported centrally. It is carried out by the Ministry of Human Resource Development’s Department of School Education & Literacy to provide financial assistance to deserving pupils from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds.

By providing a scholarship of INR 12,000 per year, NMMS encourages underprivileged kids to pursue their secondary education. Nearly 100,000 scholarships are awarded to deserving students each year when the MCM scholarship is activated in November.

Objective

NMMS Scholarship was established in May 2008 to encourage talented and underprivileged students to finish their secondary and post-secondary education to lower the percentage of pupils who leave school after class 8.

Students in grades 9 through 12 take part in two rounds of state-level selection exams each year to be eligible for the National Means-Cum-Merit Scholarship.

NMMS Scholarship 2024 – Award

Each year, NMMS awards a total of 100,000 scholarships to selected students at the rate of INR 12,000 per year, or INR 1,000 per month.

The State Bank of India (SBI) pays the scholarship sum in full under the National Means-Cum-Merit Scholarship. The Public Financial Management System (PFMS) is used to directly deposit the funds into the student accounts.

The number of scholarships allotted to each state and UT is determined by the population of the individual states and the number of students enrolled in classes 7 and 8. The NMMS amount’s specifics are highlighted below.

  • The class 9 kids receive their scholarship money all at once, which is INR 12,000 for the academic year.
  • As long as the candidate receives a clear promotion into a higher class each year, the scholarship will be renewed annually until the pupils complete their Higher Secondary education (Class 12).
