About ICCR Scholarship

At the inaugural session of the India-Africa Forum Summit, held in New Delhi in April 2008, the Prime Minister of India announced that the Indian government is committed to improving educational opportunities for students from African countries.

This commitment included increasing the number of scholarships that these students may apply for, enabling them to pursue undergraduate, graduate, and doctorate degrees in India.

The Ministry of External Affairs delegates this project to the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) for implementation.

Eligibility Criteria

A statement describing their intended study area must be included for applicants seeking doctoral or postdoctoral programs.
If at all feasible, prospective performing arts students should enclose video or audio recordings of their performances.
The candidates’ mastery of the English language should be adequate.
Applications submitted by students or transmitted by regional high commissions or embassies in New Delhi will not be processed by ICCR.
Candidates with no prior Indian educational background will be given preference.
No consideration will be given to applications for admission to programs in nursing, dentistry, or MBBS/MD.
Applicants should be informed that Indian educational institutions and universities are autonomous and have requirements for admission that must be fulfilled.
Students need to have the proper visa. Students must acquire the appropriate visa via the Indian High Commission or Embassy.

According to rules set forth by the Indian government, students who arrive without the required documentation and are not admitted to the university or institute of their choice risk being deported back to their place of origin.

The Indian Diplomatic Mission in their home country shall provide scholars with thorough advice regarding living conditions, scholarship specifics, and the type and length of their enrolled course before they leave for India.

It is advised that scholars notify the Indian Embassy/High Commission well in advance of their intended travel dates so that the Indian Council on Cultural Relations (ICCR) can organize their reception and other requirements.

It is recommended that scholars bring a specific quantity of cash to India to meet their first costs.
During the admissions process, recipients of scholarships should bring their original documentation of qualification for the institution or university to verify.
