Overview of Fry Scholarship
The Marine Gunnery Sgt. John David Fry Scholarship provides GI Bill benefits to eligible surviving spouses and kids of service members.
At all public colleges and universities, the Fry Scholarship covers the entire cost of tuition and fees for in-state students. Recipients of the Fry Scholarship are able to enroll in private or international schools, although the annual benefit is limited.
Eligibility Criteria
Your eligibility for the Fry Scholarship is unaffected by your grades.
Surviving spouses and children of active-duty service members who died on September 11, 2001, or subsequently, in the line of duty, as well as members of the selected reserve who passed away on that date due to a service-connected disability, are eligible.
The spouses and children of service personnel who passed away from a disability related to their military service within 120 days of enlisting would also be eligible for the proposed Fry Scholarship Enhancement Act of 2021.
How to Apply
Once you log into your VA.gov account, you can submit an online application for the Fry Scholarship.
Download VA Form 22-5490, the Dependents’ Application for VA Education Benefits, if you would rather fill it out on paper.
Forward it to the regional VA office of your choice for education. Have an official VA Form 22-1999, VA Enrollment Certification, completed if you have already commenced your education.
