Overview of Gardiner Scholarship
The Gardiner Scholarship Program (formerly known as the Personal Learning Scholarship Account, or PLSA) gave parents the opportunity to fulfill the unique requirements of their qualified children.
In addition to prepaying for college plans, parents of eligible Florida children may utilize the accounts to buy recognized products or services linked to education.
Scholarships can also be used for educational materials, tuition at an approved private school, contributions to a college prepaid account, specialized services like speech or occupational therapy, and more.
Nonprofit Scholarship Funding Organizations (SFOs) with state approval are in charge of directly managing the program. For each student, the average scholarship amount was almost $10,267.
Eligibility Criteria
Students must fulfill specific requirements in order to be eligible for the Gardiner Scholarship, which include but are not limited to:
- Live in Florida state.
- Be three years old to the age of twenty-two, whichever comes first, and up to the 12th grade.
- Possess a formal diagnosis from a qualified doctor or psychologist, or an individual education plan (IEP) from a Florida school district.
- Possess one or more disabilities, such as cerebral palsy, down syndrome, prader-willi syndrome, Williams syndrome, Phelan-mc syndrome, cerebral palsy, autism spectrum disorder, muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy, or intellectual disability (severe cognitive impairment).
Value of the Scholarship
The scholarship amount is 90% of the funding a school district would receive for the kid and varies based on the student’s grade, county, and matrix score.
For most students, the average cost is $10,000. If a student receives an IEP after winning a Gardiner Scholarship, the student with the most severe disability can be eligible for a greater scholarship amount.
How to Apply
On their website, you can access an application form that can be filled out online or printed, signed, and sent back to them with all necessary supporting paperwork, such as a Florida psychologist or licensed U.S. physician’s diagnosis of an eligible disability.
