Overview of Hope Scholarship WV
Through the Hope Scholarship Program, qualifying parents can receive the average state money per pupil already set aside for their children’s education in an electronic parent-controlled fund for educational expenses. This is accomplished through an education savings account (ESA).

Eligibility Criteria
- Students must have been enrolled in public school for the whole previous school year or have attended public elementary or secondary schools for at least 45 full-time instruction days of the school year in which they are applying.
- Students in grades K–12 are eligible to apply for the award to receive financial aid for qualified expenses such as homeschool curriculum and tuition.
- A Hope Scholarship is available to kindergarten pupils regardless of their prior attendance at public schools.
- After initial approval, parents may choose to extend their child’s Hope scholarship year until the youngster graduates from high school or turns 21.
- In the event that the overall number of Hope Scholarship recipients in 2024 falls below five percent of West Virginia’s K–12 enrollment, all K–12 students, regardless of their prior public school enrollment, will be eligible for ESAs starting in July 2026.
Scholarship Status
New families wishing to apply for the Hope Scholarship for the 2024–2025 academic year can do so now.
New families interested in the program can apply online starting on March 1. The deadline to receive full financing for the upcoming academic year is June 15.
