Overview of Knight Hennessy Scholarship

A Knight Hennessy Scholarship is awarded to scholars for a maximum of three years of tuition, contingent on the duration of their degree.

Scholars also get a travel allowance for one annual journey to and from Stanford, as well as a stipend for housing and academic expenses.

Every scholar is a graduate student at Stanford University who enrolls in a graduate program at any of the university’s seven schools in addition to being a Knight-Hennessy Scholar.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Current college students are eligible if they earn their first degree by September of the year they wish to join the Knight-Hennessy.
  • Students and alumni from Columbia Engineering, Columbia College, and the School of General Studies who graduated no more than five years prior to the application deadline are eligible to apply.
  • In recognition of longer service commitments, the qualifying window for applicants who are U.S. military (current or veteran) is extended by two years.
  • In addition, candidates must fulfill the prerequisites for their scholarship program and submit an application to a full-time graduate program at Stanford or one of the university’s joint or dual graduate degree programs.
  • Applicants pursuing graduate programs lasting two years or more are given priority. There are no citizenship requirements.

Application Process

Every Knight-Hennessy scholar submits an application and is chosen for enrollment. Acknowledgment marks the start of a fresh expedition towards enhanced leadership as a Knight-Hennessy scholar and signifies the achievement of all the work you put into your application.

There is more to applying to Knight-Hennessy Scholars (KHS) than just crossing things off a list. There is no set process for admission, and your application is not automatically approved based on your accomplishments, scores, or narrative.

Rather, the KHS application serves as an invitation to showcase how you personally embody the values we are looking for.

Please take note that the application will close at 1:00 PM Pacific Time on October 9, 2024.
