The Nevada Legislature passed the Governor Guinn Millennium Scholarship Initiative in 1999, establishing the Millennium Scholarship trust fund, which will be handled by the State Treasurer.

The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) Board of Regents established policy standards for scholarship administration.

The questions and answers below will provide an overview of some fundamental information required to successfully acquire a Millennium Scholarship.

There will be questions that cannot be answered here; therefore, it is critical that you seek help from your high school counselors as well as the admissions and financial aid offices of all universities you are considering.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Interested students must complete and submit the quick, straightforward scholarship application form on the Dr. Pepper Tuition Giveaway webpage.
  • Must be in his or her senior or final year of college at a qualified institution.
  • Must be enrolled in and stay enrolled in a course of study leading to licensure in elementary or secondary education.
  • Must maintain a college grade point average of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 grading scale, or a commensurate level of academic success supplied to and certified by the College Savings Board for students enrolled in an educational institution that does not calculate the grade point average;
  • Must state your commitment to teaching in Nevada after graduation; and
  • Must have an impressive record of community service application materials.

Application Process

In Nevada, kids who graduate from a standard high school do not need to apply. If you are eligible, your high school or school district will provide your name to our office, and we will notify you via letter in July or August following your high school graduation.

Students who are homeschooled or attend out-of-state high schools while residing in Nevada can apply. To be processed, these applications (available under forms and papers) must be accompanied by all necessary paperwork.
