Nelfund Portal: Eligibility and Application Process

Nelfund Portal – According to a recent announcement from the federal government, the application portal for student loans will formally open on Friday, May 24, 2024.

In a statement issued last Thursday in Abuja, Nasir Ayitogo, the Nigerian Education Loan Fund’s (NELFUND) lead for media and public relations, revealed this information.

As the application portal opens today, NELFUND has published clear instructions on how students can apply for the loan in response to this statement. 

The student loan offers financing options for maintenance and tuition at accredited universities and technical colleges in Nigeria.

Application Process

  • Go to nelf.gov.ng.
  • Select “Apply Now.”
  • Select “Get Started.”
  • Click “Yes, I am a Nigerian” after responding to the questions on this page.
  • Confirm the details of your education. To find out if your school has uploaded your information, you must choose your school from a dropdown menu and provide your matric number.
  • Select “Verify with JAMB” and fill out the screen with your JAMB information.
  • (Students can enter their NIN for validation in an input form if they still need to register their NIN with JAMB.) 
  • Enter your email address and password to create an account. After entering the password in the designated areas, you must click “Create Account.”
  • Click the link that was sent to your email for email verification. The account creation process is now complete. 

How to Complete Your Profile 

  • Click the “LOGIN” button to log in following successful registration.
  • To log in, enter your email address and password.
  • Select “Proceed to Contact Details” from the menu.
  • Update your contact information to include your phone number, complete residential address, state of residence, and local government area. Click “Proceed to Educational Details” after that.
  • By choosing your higher education institution and entering your matric number, you can update your educational information. Click “Proceed to Account Details” after that.
  • Input your BVN, choose your bank, then input your account number to verify your BVN. For your profile to be completed, click “save changes.” 

Loan Application

  • After logging into the application, select the “Request for student loan” button located at the upper right corner of the screen to access the loans or home pages.
  • Click the check box and select “Continue” if you desire an upkeep loan; if the institutional charge is all you need, click “Continue.”
  • Upload any necessary supporting documentation. While the student ID and institution invoice are optional, the admission letter is required.
  • After selecting “Continue,” check the boxes for the policy and declaration.
  • After reading the loan summary and selecting the appropriate checks for the GSI Mandate and terms and conditions, click “Submit Application.”
  • Click the “loans” button to see how your application is progressing.
