Nevada Promise Scholarship

Nevada Promise Scholarship Review

The Nevada State Legislature established the Nevada Promise Scholarship (NPS), a state-funded financial aid program that enables recent high school graduates to attend community college at a significantly reduced cost. As a last-dollar scholarship, the NPS pays for the base registration for up to three years as well as some other required fees that aren’t covered by the student’s other state and federal aid.

Eligibility Criteria

In order to be eligible, students must be either first-time applicants from the class of 2024 or continuous participant in the Nevada Promise Scholarship, starting with the class of 2021.

In addition, students must:

  • Be classified as a Nevada local for tuition purposes by the institution where they plan to receive the Nevada Promise Scholarship.
  • Have achieved one of the following during your high school senior academic year:
    • A high school diploma from a public or private high school in Nevada;

    • A General Equivalency Diploma (GED) or equivalent document before 20 years of age, no later than June 15.
    • A homeschooled student may satisfy this eligibility requirement by acquiring a general equivalency diploma or equivalent document (i.e., GED, HiSET, or TASC) no later than June 15.
  • Not have acquired a prior associate or bachelor’s degree.
  • Fulfill all program deadlines. (Please read the “Steps to Earn TMCC’s Nevada Promise Scholarship” section below for a full list.)
  • Enroll in a minimum of 12 semester credit hours in an associate degree program, a bachelor’s degree program, or a certificate of achievement program for each semester of the school year immediately following the school year in which the learner graduates from high school.
