NYS Stem Scholarship: All You Need to Know

Fall and spring semester applications for the NYS scholarship are open to undergraduates, who may be awarded for up to four years of study. The commencement of a student’s academic career determines the number of semesters, not the start of their financial aid.

Overview of NYS Stem Scholarship

Tuition grants for New York State residents attending New York State-based universities are given out by the NYS STEM Incentive Program.

Recipients must be among the top 10% of their high school graduating class, enroll in and complete an authorized STEM program, and commit to living and working in New York State for five years following graduation in the STEM fields.

Go to the HESC website for further details regarding NYS STEM specifically.

How Does the NYS Stem Incentive Program Work?

While NYS STEM is conferred for the academic year, certification is granted each semester to those who fulfill the eligibility conditions, which include completing 12 degree-applicable credits and maintaining a cumulative GPA of 2.5 at the end of the semester.

NYS Stem will appear as a credit on the bill each semester, which may be seen on QuickPay. However, the institution must certify your eligibility after each semester for the NYS STEM funds to be paid.

You will be informed if your NYS STEM is not certified. Additionally, STEM will no longer be credited to your bill, which could result in an account balance.

Kindly get in touch with our office if you have any inquiries about the reason for your decertification. If not, you will need to get in touch with Student Accounts to settle any unpaid debt that may have arisen.

In the next semester, students who have lost their eligibility may be able to reclaim it.
