Through a selective scholarship program that supports higher education for African Americans who are academically bright and have a strong sense of community, the Ron Brown Scholarship pays tribute to the legacy of Ronald H. Brown.

The most gifted and economically disadvantaged high school seniors who exhibit a strong interest in public service, community involvement, business entrepreneurship, and global citizenship are given one of 45–50 four-year $40,000 scholarships ($10,000 each year) by the RBSP, which is awarded in a competitive manner.

The renewable scholarships may be used by recipients to enroll in any accredited four-year American institution or university. Ron Brown scholarships can be used to pursue any field of study or career goal and are not restricted to any one area.

 Scholarship Program Eligibility

Interested persons are strongly encouraged to apply for the Ron Brown Scholar Program provided you meet the following requirements:

  • Needs to be african american or black.
  • Must achieve academic success.
  • Needs to have outstanding potential for leadership.
  • Required to take part in volunteer work in the community.
  • Make your financial requirement clear.
  • Possess a valid visa for permanent residence or be a citizen of the USA.
  • At the time of application be a senior in high school currently enrolled.

Scholarship Application Timeline

Here is the timeline for interested applicants to plan the submission of their application to the Ron Brown Scholar Program (RBSP) as well as key dates when eligible applicants will be notified:

  • September through December 1st: Interested parties can start filling out and submitting the www.ronbrown.org RBSP scholarship application. We are unable to accept late applications because this is an online application.
  • The final day to submit an application to be considered for the Ron Brown Scholar Program is December 1.
  • The program team reviews applications from December through February.
  • February midpoint: Notification of semi-finalists.
  • Late February or early March: Ron Brown Scholar Program finalists receive notification and an invitation to take part in a weekend-long selection process in Washington, D.C. Members of the RBSP National Selection Committee interview finalists, and they are also asked to take part in a number of weekend activities. Scholarship recipients are chosen based on their participation in weekend activities, application, and interviews.
  • By April 15th: Winners of the competition are notified.
